I think I can get a whole sermon out of my visit to God’s Armory

Do you have regrets about past or present issues or feelings?

Are you slipping back into what you know or feel are bad habits like: getting or staying

Involved with and listening to the wrong crowd, embracing frustration, sadness,

or depression? Are you Bored, or Angry, harboring hatred or animosity toward anyone?

Do you fear Job Loss, or poverty?

As a Believer in Jesus Christ, can you face these challenges and roadblocks in life

and hope to find victory? Of course you cam! Even if you think the “Deck Is Stacked Against You”.

But, you will need to fight that spiritual war with God’s strength.

You see it is a Spiritual War and not one fought my men alone.

Ephesians Chapter 6 tells you a little about that war and just what you need to win.

Start by looking at verse 12: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”.

Ahhaaa… But, you have some   “Aces up Your Sleeve.” First is your “Son-Ship” as described in John 1:12

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”.

Next you have the promise of John 2:18 which tells you of His experience and available help.

“For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted”.

And you also have “The Full Armor of God” that you, like your Kevlar vest, can put on daily as described in Ephesians 6:10-20

‘Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole Armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles and tactics of the devil.”

Let’s take a closer look at that armor.

We can start with the Belt in verse 14 “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth…” If you have lost your moral compass, compassion and ethical GPS, then you may have a difficult time buckling that belt, but if you deal with the truth with an eye on the scales of justice, then it will slip right on.

Then we concentrate on the Chest Protector (Your vest or as God calls it your Breastplate of Righteousness) “having put on the breastplate of righteousness…” It might slip right by you, but those No Justice, no Peace signs that are so common today on every newscast are when translated, asking for righteousness to reign. If we had closer relationships with God, that would be raining down on all of us. By the way look up the definition of Justice.

Now for the Footwear and yes I am talking about the spiritual combat boots you will need to put on before you venture into that utter darkness of the world in which we work. “…and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace…” It is hard to be depressed when you are the bearer of “Good News” and let me ask you… don’t you think the Gospel you carry is Good News? It is the truth so it must be bringing hope to the lost and compassion to the needy and it is all carried by you for the benefit of others. You are only the messenger.

Now it is time to pick up your Shield. “…above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one…” This war is not going to be a walk in the park, you are going to be battle worn when it is over and you will be spiritually wounded, maybe even several times if you remember the wounds described in paragraph one. The devil commands a mighty army, but the “Battle Belongs to the Lord” and He won the Victory at Calvary. We are just in the “Mop Up and Triage Force” so let’s all be “Faithful Spiritual Corpsmen” and do our best.

Now it is time to don the last defensive piece of armor, the Helmet. “…And take the helmet of salvation...” There is a lot to say about the helmet, because it protects the wearer’s Command Center. A soldier going into battle without a helmet would have instantly exposed himself to the deadliest of blows. Leaving off any piece of the armor would have been dangerous, but to go without the helmet would have been unthinkable. We can no more afford to be without the helmet of salvation today.

The helmet of salvation protects us and keeps our focus where it needs to be: the end of the race. When we’re wearing that helmet, it doesn’t matter what Satan throws at us—we know what we’re fighting for, and we know that our salvation, our deliverance, is a gift from Someone far greater than our enemy.

The helmet of salvation means we don’t have to live in fear of Satan. When he tries to disorient and destroy us, the helmet reminds us that our victory will come, not from us, but from the God who rules the universe—and that God wants to give us that victory.

And with that helmet firmly seated on our heads, we can focus on living the life God called us to live—fighting the good fight on our journey to the Kingdom of God.

When the apostle Paul wrote of the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation, he could have been echoing a passage in Isaiah where God, the Redeemer of Zion, puts on these same pieces of armor:

“For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak” (Isaiah 59:17).

Now we get ready go on the offensive as well as the defensive when we strap on the Sword.  “... and the sword we are speaking of is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God…”

Yes, The Sword of the spirit is the Word of God and we cannot use it without training. Mastering its use takes time and dedication.

We are to use the Word of God defensively to discern and deflect those thoughts and attitudes that are contrary to God’s way and to use that same sword to bring those attitudes and thoughts into captivity and align them with God’s principles. That is the Christian battle, and that is how we use the only offensive weapon in our armor.

Prayer is like a pre-mission briefing if you are military and like a roll Call if you are a LEO, either way, it is always foolish to head into battle without getting some guidance and intelligence. For if you know anything about battle, knowing yourself and your enemy and both of your capabilities only aids in securing victory. Prayer is that ops and Intel briefing that every warrior needs before engaging in the spiritual warfare you are sure to encounter every day of your life.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” Ephesians 6:18

When some of your armor requires someone else’s help in putting it on Then we can turn to Proverbs 27:17: which states “As iron sharpens iron (or a badge sharpens a badge), so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. And then what Is The Result? Look at Psalms 18:1-3 “I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. You might want to read Psalms 18:1-50 (entire chapter) to get a refresher of the full story of David’s deliverance.

Like David, you may find out that “Your Personal Strength Is Not Enough”, Think about a time that the Lord delivered you, provided you with His strength, or helped you in a time of need.

Today as always, Satan is working “overtime”, first, to keep us from salvation and joining up with Christ; and secondly, after we are saved, to keep us from “Armoring Up”.

Today it almost looks like we are living in the Book of Second Kings, and nobody can argue that Second Timothy Chapter 3 is just what the media wants and it appears they are getting just that. But There is always Hope to be gleaned from God’s Promises.

Romans 8:35, 38, 39.” Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” and “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come”, and “nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

Well as Elmer Fudd used to say, “TH-TH-TH-That’s all folks!”

That is unless you are reading this and have never joined God’s Army and never have received your Spiritual 782 gear (That is USMC Speak for Armor). If you haven’t, then you are invited to take the Oath of Enlistment below.

ASKING GOD FOR SALVATION....A SINNER’S PRAYER Pray the prayer below, FROM YOUR HEART, and you will be saved. Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, and that He died on the cross to save me from my sin. I believe that He rose again to life, and that He invites me to live forever with Him in heaven as part of Your family. Because of what Jesus has done, I ask You to forgive me of my sin and give me eternal life. I invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow Him as my Lord. Help me to live in a way that pleases and honors You.  Amen.

Now read this: Colossians 3:2-17

Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.  On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them.  But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.  Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.  Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
